These vocabulary words have to deal with the elements and how to find them in our novel. These words will come up on the test at the end of this section so pay close attention. The questions may sound eerily similar to some of the sentences in the video.

Objective:
12th grade English language arts students will understand the elements of gothic literature; so that when asked to indicate elements in a young adult novel, they will be able to do so with 80% accuracy.
Language Arts, Grade 11-12, Language Progressive Skills, L.4.3a. Choose words and phrases to convey ideas precisely.

Introduction:
"Who here has read a book, or knows about a book, on vampires?"

Model:
  1. I gave examples, in class, of where elements can be found in different novels.
  2. I showed what elements can be left out or explained differently.
  3. The vocabulary words have been defined through digital story in order to increase comprehension of gothic literature.
  4. You will follow along while I show the example of –ness on the morphemic analysis chart and make up your own words which go into our lesson.

Guided Practice:
In groups of 3-5 and come up with a story, correctly using as many elements as they can. You will create new words using morphemes inside concept circles.

Independent Practice:
You will continue reading Vampire Academy and look to identify examples of gothic literature in the young adult story. Bring three in text examples to class with you the next day.

Assessment:
Show knowledge through short answer ability to summarize two elements of gothic literature and give your own example. You will also show knowledge by finding words with the same morphemes, as shown in the chart, of their vocabulary words in literature.
